This hovercraft was built by me over a two year period. It has been built mostly specific to the Universal Hovercraft plans. This hovercraft was my second hovercraft build. The 18SP is powered by a fuel injected Subaru EJ22 2.2L engine with a rated 140 horsepower. This engine was pulled from a 1992 Subaru Legacy with 114,000 miles in perfect running condition. Instrumentation in the craft includes a Tachometer. Oil pressure, water temperature, volt meter, hour meter, Airspeed indicator, Magnehelic gauge, also alternator, oil and code lights. A handheld GPS is included for speed and distance as well. I had intended to bring this craft all the way to WIG mode to qualify it as the 18SPW. All of the necessary wing spar mounts, hold downs and plans for the wings are also included, Some of this has been fitted and installed and some of it has not. Tubing and fittings for the long WIG tail is included as well. A person will need to get the aluminum spars and build the wing tips and build WIG tail and she will surely fly. A suitable modified and decked tilt trailer is included with new wheels, tires, bearings, springs, and lights.
This is one high performance hovercraft. It is in not anyway a toy. I have carried 4 adults on smooth water to over 60 mph and have seen a top speed of 71 mph on water…85 mph on ice!! The engine and running gear has been running like a sewing machine. I am very proud of this hovercraft, but the time has come to make some room and free up some dollars for other build projects
