Alright...so I'm supposed to be starting my build this weekend.

Sat I put a transmission in my work truck after working half a day, and today my garage is full of girls.

.

Some things are just more important to a father I guess.

Maybe tomorrow night I will gain some progress.

Skirt attach strips Print E-mail
Doug\'s UH14P

Well I got a lil relief from the weather not much though, I started out putting my attach strips on the sides of the craft but found they were very hard to form to the hull so rather than soaking them or heating as time is a valuable commodity here I got out my table saw and cut them length wise in half , this made things a lot easier for me. I laminated the strips using weldwood contact glue which is water proof but the first strip I used epoxy to bond it to the hull .

Now I'm considering putting plywood down the center section of the bottom ( just for peace of mind ) as here in Bama land our rivers catch all the logs from ohio down and I have had a punctured hull already and a large dent in my airboat hull, I know weight is an issure but I'm not looking for speed as long as I can balance out the craft.

Any ideas you guys may have are welcome info to me, this build is going slower than I had planned but its ok I'll be through when its done lol

In The Beginning Print E-mail
River Runner

In the beginning there was man!

Man found woman.

"What a wonderfully miserable existence" he thought to himself. He evolved from crawling to walking...from walking to running and decided he wanted to learn how to fly. Flying was difficult to master. If he could fly, he could gain freedom from woman. If he could fly over water he would be alone again. So, as necessity is the mother of invention, he secluded himself in his cave and invented the Hovercraft.

Long Live Man

This diary is a tribute to the first man!

In it I will detail, as well as I can, the methods used to construct my 14P. Should you see something you do not like please be quick about mentioning it for it will move quickly. At this point I have the engine, a 26hp Briggs Intek that I bought on Ebay some time ago. It was a return that needed 2 rods. So I rebuilt it and away we go. I also have most of the bearings and such. The rear prop I will carve and the lift fan I will buy from slipstream. This weekend I have to work but I will pick up the materials for the hull. and try and get started.

This is a rendering of what I hope to accomplish. Sorry about the quality. I hope you can make it out. I'll post some stuff in a couple more days.

Small craft single engine theory Print E-mail
General Discussion

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

Hey guys. I have been spending some time thinking about how to power the 14p that I plan to start building this week. I have watched a few available video's of them running and read all of the reports on issues with working out the bugs. It seems to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that they still seem to suffer from being just a bit tail heavy as do most of the craft. I am wanting to build this one because it's foam and simple and light and did I say foam? Yah, I have only built 2 wood crafts. I want to try a foam craft.

Anyway got sidetracked there. So my question is this after doing all of my research, why can't we put the engine in the front and power the thrust prop from the front of the craft? The only argument I can come up with is that the belt may slip when wet but we arent talking about a lot of power here and there would be 4 tensioners to help keep it tight. Has anyone thought of this before? And a variator could still be installed with the variator acting more as a thrust throttle.

Seems to make some sense to me. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Give me your input please.

Thanks Dennis
