Thrust Duct 2 Print E-mail
Sublime - Jake\'s Modified UH-14PT

Well everyone,

Today was a epic struggle with myself and blind idiocy. I started out the day feeling pretty good about things. It was a cold morning, around 0 deg. not Celsius either. Went out an fired up the wood stove and in pretty short order had the garage up to operating temp. Today was the day I would be attaching the thrust duct to Sublime.

Hi Guys.

Here are some views of the engine that has been under discussion, sans flywheel that it.  You can see the steel plate "flywheel" in one view, whilst other views show the ignition sytem and its dual distributors and wiring.

Where to Buy? Print E-mail
UH-18spw
Written by David
Monday, 28 December 2009

 Looking ahead here Guys.

Going to start buying materials soon, being a non-builder, I don't want to pay for material any more than I have to.

(Im not cheap, I just  love a good deal.)

UH sells a hull kit for $1199, plus shipping cost.  You get foam and Ply only.

Is this the way to go or is there a cheaper place to buy?

What the difference between pink and blue foam?

Which one (pink or blue) to use for hull building?

Thank in advance for your advise

David

Opinions on Subaru EA Motors Print E-mail
Subaru
Written by Guy Fichtelman
Sunday, 27 December 2009

I'm wanting to track down a Subaru 1.8L engine for my Explorer project and I've narrowed it down to either the EA81 or the EA82 because of the decent power to weight ratios. So far it seems to be a bit easier to locate an EA82, but from most of my research on the net people are more likely to promote the EA81 as the most reliable of the two and I guess it weighs slightly less as well.

I was curious to hear what some of you Subaru experienced guys think about these two motors. Are there any issues that should keep me from selecting one of these motors over the other?

Thanks,

Guy

New to Hover Building Print E-mail
UH-18spw

Hi Guys

"hover Dreaming"  is not new to me, but Hover Building is.  Briefly my background: I am a license Pilot ( single engine) and my working trade is a machinist (20 years).  Neither one of these qualiflies me in no way, shape or form to be a hover builder. That is why I join here. You just can't buy EXPERIENCE.

3 years ago, I brought UH plans (18spw) and video. I looked them over than, but really didnt do anything. Times have changed. I now have time and funds to start building or dreaming again.  Actually, I am in the process of pulling a EA82 out of a car. Some of you know this already I'm sure. The plans I got from UH is 4 sheets 22" x 34" blueprints. I have studied them a great deal in the last week.  These plans were drawn pretty crappy!  Hand drawn!! The date on the drawing is 1999. They had CAD on computer than! Details not very clear, missing measurements/location points, Notes/text is everywhere!  Not very professional. BUT,  I'm stuck with them. I have lots of questions. Getting started is the hardest part. Never being a builder before, I don't understand the construction of underneath the hull, the skid section. I don't  want to build anything that going to interfere with airflow. Does this skid section support the skirting? Some detailed pic would help alot.

Any other help I would greatly appreicated.  Anyone in the Corpus Christ area building now or have a working craft?

Thanks guys!

Fly wheels [lack of] Print E-mail
Engine Related Topics

Hi

I have a query concerning flywheels, or rather the lack of one.

I have a heavily modified V8 3.5 litre engine which I intend to fit to my UH18 WIG.   It has reworked heads and twin spark plugs to each cylinder and dual magnetos.  I recently noticed that the flywheel doesn't exist.........perhaps I should explain that the engine was originaly intended for aircraft use and modified accordingly.  I bought it after the original owner died before his project was completed.  Back to the problem.......recently I was looking at the engine and suddenly realised that the flywheel consists of a plain steel disc about 1/4inch gauge, with the starter ring bolted to the outer rim.   Has anyone any idea what effects this could have on the performance of this engine at all please?  Originaly the engine was designed to power a very heavy alloy prop on an aircraft and I assume that this would have acted as a form of flywheel in its own right.  It was not a direct drive but have a ribbed belt drive with a weird ratio of 2.31 to one ratio. I could weigh the prop if anyone wants any detailed info, but the UH wooden prop is not even remotely as weighty as the alloy version.

Any suggestions ideas or even someone with some knowledge about these things, your reccomendations and advice is urgently sought.

Pete...
